Sourdough Pizza Crust (Prep)
The night before you were going to make this recipe for an appetite or dinner make your pizza crust. We like to start ours around 9 PM so I can prevent on the countertop overnight and go into the fridge for a cold proof in the morning..
Start together your salt, water, sourdough starter, oil, and honey. Mixed by hand and allowed to sit on the countertop overnight. In the morning, the dough may have doubled in size. Stretch and fold the dough over itself rotating the bowl with each repetition. Continue until the dough is no longer able to be stretched.
Cover and place in the fridge until you are ready to bake. You can let this sit up to 72 hours before baking- the crust may be more tangy in flavor.
Toppings (Cheese + Garlic Butter)
When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the sourdough pizza dough from the fridge and place onto a sheet pan. Use your fingers to make a rectangular shape being sure not to pop any of the large bubbles. I like to dimple my fingers similar to focaccia to help spread the dough across the pan without rolling it out.
Put the put the mozzarella cheese on first and cheddar cheese on top. Place on the bottom rack of the oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the cheese has melted in the bottom of the pizza crust is a golden brown color.
Remove from oven and immediately run your butter across the top of the cheesy bread. It is important to complete the step while the bread is hot so the butter can melt over the cheesy bread. Top with garlic salt and serve warm. We like to serve with marinara sauce or ranch.
